entre una cosa y otra
Similar to English, entre can be used to mean "in combination" or "together with". It is often used with que to enumerate a list of combined factors, in which case an alternative translation will probably be needed.
-Entre la gasolina, la comida y las entradas, el viaje me ha salido por 200 euros — Between the fuel, the food and the tickets, it cost me 200 euros
-Entre una cosa y otra no me dio tiempo — What with one thing and another, I didn't have time
-Entre que no tenía dinero y que estaba reventado, no me apetecía salir — What with not having any money and being knackered, I wasn't keen to go out
-Esas primeras fueron las que más les costaron: entre que los propietarios no se fiaban, que pensaban que estaban locos y que se les vendía la idea de que los inquilinos no visitarían la casa para alquilarla, todo estaba en su contra — Combined with the fact the owners didn't trust them, the fact they thought they were mad, and trying to sell them on the idea that the tenant wouldn't visit the house before renting it, everything was against them
Entre (que) can also refer to the time between two events, similar to mientras.
"Marca el lapso de tiempo que media entre dos hechos".1
-Entre que vas y vuelves, se pasan por lo menos dos horas — Between coming and going, at least two hours go by
-Entre que me ducho y me arreglo, puedes terminar eso — While I have a shower and get ready, you can finish that
