greenmanla madre que te parió

The exclamation '¡La madre que te/me/lo/etc. parió!' is commonly used in colloquial Spanish to express anger, surprise, and occasionally contentment about a situation.

Although these are fixed expressions, the reference to 'the mother who bore somebody' may have an explanation.

In the case of discontent, the speaker/writer can be thought to be directing his or her anger towards the mother of the person alluded to for bringing them into the world; it's like saying "La madre que te parió se quedó a gusto al traer al mundo un inútil/cabrón/etc. como tú".

In the case of contentment, the speaker/writer is directing their gratitude or joy towards the mother; it's like saying "La madre que te parió es extraordinaria por haberte traído al mundo".

The translation into English could be something like 'You son of a gun/bitch!', 'I'll be damned!', 'Fuck me/him!', 'Motherfucker', 'Goddammit', or something of the kind. However, much like the other swear words joder, coño, and so on, use of the expression 'la madre que te/me/lo parió' isn't as crude or harsh as 'fuck/fucker', and it can be heard on the TV and radio fairly often.

-Lo siento, tío. Se me ha caído. -¡(Me cago en) La madre que te parió! — Sorry, mate. I dropped it -For fuck's sake!

-(Tu amigo te pisa el dedo) ¡Ay! ¡La madre que te parió! — Ouch! Motherfucker/Goddammit!

La madre que me parió! ¿Cómo me he podido meter en este lío? — Fuck me! How did I manage to get involved in this mess?

La madre que lo parió! Ha sacado todo matrícula de honor — I'll be damned! He has graduated with honors!

-Es el mejor jugador de todos los tiempos. ¡Viva la madre que lo parió! — He's the best player ever. Thank god for him!
