engañar(se): hacer creer algo que no es verdad. [Además de su significado más obvio (embaucar, timar, estafar), donde se hace un engaño con intención, el verbo engañar se usa en algunas expresiones donde el sujeto no lo hace a propósito.
-El comercial me engañó/ timó/estafó: este coche es una mierda — The salesman tricked/ fooled/ conned/swindled me: this car is a piece of shit [Un engaño hecho a propósito]
-No te voy a engañar, lo tienes difícil — I'm not going to lie to you: it's not going to be easy
-No nos engañemos: es una dictadura pura y dura — Let's not kid ourselves/ pretend otherwise: it's a full-blown dictatorship
-Te estás engañando si piensas que te va a dejar marchar sin más — You're kidding/deluding yourself if you think he's going to let you leave just like that
-Si te dijera que no me importa, te estaría engañando — If I said I don't mind, I'd be lying to you
